The impact of the construction of the Hydroelectric Plant of Belo Monte
The third largest plant in the world is being built in the Brazilian Amazon and brings social and environmental impacts difficult to measure. With the river dam, flooding of islands and part of the city and the creation of a lake and a channel that diverts water from the river, indigenous communities, fishermen and residents of city of Altamira are already suffering from the impacts and many will have to leave their homes and / or change lifestyle. The construction company is committed to a list of conditions to reimburse the impacted but these conditions are causing a stir in the region with people complaining that their rights are not being met appropriately, while others are happy because see a better situation.
